About Downtown LA Proper Hotel

  • With city lights and vintage brick as a backdrop, Downtown Los Angeles Proper re-imagines luxury in the historic district and updates an iconic Broadway Corridor landmark into a 147-room destination hotel. Here, the creative vision of Kelly Wearstler seamlessly blends past and present with compelling design, vintage influence and local art. Essentials include two destination restaurants in partnership with James Beard Award-winning L.A. chef Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne (Lucques, a.o.c., Hollywood Bowl Food + Wine, Larder Baking company); an intimate library-lounge, a city-view rooftop pool and lounge-bar-restaurant. Especially Proper are two singular, one-of-a-kind suites fashioned from the basketball court and indoor pool of the building’s sporting club past.

  • A Modern Mosaic

  • Each of our 147 rooms and suites is subtly different, and layered with pattern, texture and color. Proper beds are dressed with crisp imported linens, tiled baths are inspired by Moroccan interiors, and are appointed with custom robes and Aesop amenities.

  • At the helm of Proper’s food & beverage program are James Beard award-winning restaurateurs Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne. The casual elegance cultivated at their celebrated Los Angeles mainstays (a.o.c., Hollywood Bowl Food + Wine, Larder Baking company) will inform DTLA Proper’s restaurants, special events menus, and in-room dining.

    Caldo Verde: An elevated twist on tradition, experience casual elegance at this signature ground floor restaurant. An homage to global culinary tradition, this cuisine features vegetable-driven market fare and a selection of boutique  wines. Inside the design-driven space, a monolithic stained glass installation serves as the focal point of the rich interiors.

    Cara Cara Rooftop: Transcend the ordinary and head to the rooftop for sweeping, unobstructed 360-degree city views and al fresco dining under the sun or stars. Detailed with intimate dining nooks this experience features vibrant salads, al pastor tacos, a decadent grilled sandwich and shareable dishes cooked in our wood-fired oven, such as house made focaccia and seafood paella.

    Dahlia: In good spirits, pop into the ground floor cocktail lounge for after-work drinks, a small celebration, or a cozy night out. Perfectly private, Dahlia is a tucked-away escape from the bustle of Downtown Los Angeles, offering classic cocktails alongside an ever-evolving list of boutique wines.
